Anxiety & Avoidance: Avoiding tasks

What's Happening:

Avoidance often signals overwhelm, fear of failure, or lack of confidence. The task may feel too big, unfamiliar, or emotionally risky.
THIS

Option A: Gentle / Connection-Based Response
Use this when avoidance is emotional.
How to do it:
Show empathy
Stay supportive

What to say:
"This feels hard."
"I'll help you start."

Why it works: Support reduces resistance.

Option B: Trauma-Informed / Nervous System Support
Use this when avoidance is anxiety-driven.
How to do it:
Break tasks into small steps
Reduce pressure

What to say:
"Just the first step."
"You don't have to finish all at once."

Why it works: Small steps feel safer to the nervous system.

Option C: Calm Boundary + Skill-Building
Use this when avoidance becomes a pattern.
How to do it:
Set expectations
Offer structure

What to say:
"This needs to be done."
"Let's make a plan."

Why it works: Structure builds confidence and follow-through.
