Social Challenges: Difficulty sharing



What's Happening:

Sharing is a complex skill that involves impulse control, empathy, and emotional regulation. Difficulty sharing is developmentally normal and often linked to fear of losing control or access to something valued.

Option A: Gentle / Connection-Based Response
Use this when emotions are involved.
How to do it:
Acknowledge ownership and feelings
Stay calm

What to say:
"You're not ready to share yet."
"That's hard."

Why it works: Validation reduces defensiveness and builds trust.

Option B: Trauma-Informed / Nervous System Support
Use this when sharing triggers anxiety or distress.
How to do it:
Remove pressure
Offer predictability

What to say:
"You can have it back soon."
"I'll help."

Why it works: Safety makes flexibility possible.

Option C: Calm Boundary + Skill-Building
Use this when sharing is expected.
How to do it:
Set clear expectations
Coach turn-taking

What to say:
"It's time to take turns."
"You'll get another turn."

Why it works: Structure teaches fairness.
