Power, Control & Resistance: Passive Resistance



What's Happening:

Passive resistance (stalling, "forgetting," minimal effort) often signals resentment, overwhelm, or fear of direct conflict. It's a quieter form of opposition.

Option A: Gentle / Connection-Based Response
Use this when resistance is subtle.
How to do it:
Name what you notice
Stay neutral

What to say:
"It seems hard to get started."
"Something feels off."

Why it works: Naming reduces avoidance.

Option B: Trauma-Informed / Nervous System Support
Use this when resistance is anxiety-based.
How to do it:
Reduce pressure
Offer support

What to say:
"We can take this step by step."
"I've got you."

Why it works: Support lowers avoidance.

Option C: Calm Boundary + Skill-Building
Use this when resistance persists.
How to do it:
Clarify expectations
Follow through

What to say:
"This still needs to be done."
"Let's choose a plan."

Why it works: Consistency teaches responsibility.
